ISIS Troops Storm City Of Ramadi For Two Days

ISIS Fighters

ISIS fighters stormed the government building in Ramadi on Friday.

ISIS started an offensive on the city of Ramadi Thursday and continued with wide scale attacks on Friday according to the province governor. The attack involved suicide bombers in cars and shootings with security posts in the Anbar province.

Today the provincial government building was captured and the ISIS black flag was seen flying from it. They’ve also taken over the Police Department headquarters and Great Mosque of Ramadi. According to reports officials have left the city and its citizens behind.

Ramadi is the biggest Sunni center in the Anbar province and is just 70 miles away from Iraq’s capital of Baghdad. ISIS’s plan are to take over the entire city and join it to its self-proclaimed caliphate that already spreads through parts of Syria and Iraq.

This attack has been the biggest success so far for ISIS troops since last year with them taking over parts of the city. Over time territory possession has altered between Iraqi forces and ISIS. US forces have been fighting for months to push back Muslim extremists however ISIS have continued to fight back.

The civilian population that fled the area counts 114,000 people and most of them are now heading towards Baghdad according to the United Nations refugee agency.

Iraqi forces managed to capture the city of Tikrit last month, but their control didn’t have much effect although if Ramadi falls under ISIS completely this would be the biggest loss so far.

An online statement appeared the same day when the attacks started. The terrorist leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi called for total violence and invited new recruits from all over the world to join their fight no matter where they are from.

His voice on the new recording matches a previous one from March this year when he was talking about airstrikes on Yemen, proving he is still alive despite speculation of his death. ISIS camps were bombed repeatedly from January this year and according to the US military he was badly wounded.
