United Airlines Swap 10 Boeing Dreamliners For 777-300ER Jets

United Airlines is planning to accept the planes at the beginning of 2016.

United Airlines stated on Thursday that they have swapped ten orders of Boeing Company’s 787 Dreamliners for ten larger 777-300ER jets. This has marked a victory for the Company that manufactures planes as they are trying to get rid of all of the 777 models before the production of this model ends. The news is followed previously by months of speculation which said that United Continental Holdings from Chicago is planning on making the swap, which would allow them to move some aircrafts onto different routes that are more fitting to the customer’s demands. The company also stated that it is in the final steps of negotiations for the lease of 10 to 20 used aircrafts with a narrow body. This is being done as a part of a fleet reorganization.

This deal gives a signal to Boeing that they have a constant demand for their wide body 777 model plane and that they will not have problems before their switching to the production of 777X model which is scheduled in the new few years. Boeing stated on Wednesday that their 777 current production line is sold out for 2016 and that over half is sold out for 2017, with high expectations that the sales will extend on to 2018 also. Boeing’s spokesman Doug Alder said in an e-mail that the company is always trying to work with their customers and satisfy their needs for new evolving fleets, he also said that the company is satisfied that they have been able to come to terms with United Airlines. Analysts have been concerned that Boeing will not be able to sell all of the 777’s production line and that they will have to cut down on prices, obviously this doesn’t seem to be the case.

United Airlines officials have said that they will accept the delivery of 777-300ER jets at the beginning of 2016, while saying that they expect these aircrafts to improve the company’s competitiveness. United also stated that they plan on extending the operation life of all of their 21 Boeing 767-300ER aircrafts and that it is their intention to switch some of their Boeing 757-200 aircrafts to Latin American routes and United States routes from transatlantic flights. Many analysts have speculated that Boeing may have troubles to stay competitive in the future but it seems like the company keeps finding new ways to improve.
