The Alpine Eternity, a Singapore-flagged cargo vessel received shots across her bow from about five vessels in international waters in the Persian Gulf on Thursday.

The vessels are believed to be of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy and the quest for more information is still on, no casualties have been reported so far.

The vessels, armed with small calibre guns, tried to force the 29,130 tonnes oil tanker to stop to which the master of the ship did not comply. The Iranians broke off once the oil tanker entered UAE territorial waters.

The UAE bound ship came under attack at around 08:00 GMT on Thursday as she defied the order broadcast over VHF circuit to stop. The oil tanker escaped, many rounds were believed to be fired to immobilize the ship, in the territorial waters of the UAE they were met by three coast guard boats. Iran forced a Marshall Islands-flagged vessel into Iranian territorial waters last month, by firing across her bow. The US stopped escorting merchant vessels in the Staits of Homuz as tensions in the region died down recently.

The UN Security Council received compliants from Iran against Saudi-led coalition forces intercepting and inspecting Yemen bound vessels, they claimed that it comes in the way of Iranian efforts to send aid to war-torn Yemen. The Saudi-led coalition had indulged in inspecting Yemen bound ships in an attempt to prevent smuggling of arms to the Iran supported Houti group of rebels. Iran, on Wednesday, said that it will not allow humanitarian shipments to be inspected by the coalition forces.

Saudi Arabia’s claim that Iran is arming the Houthis is being denied by the accused. However, the coalition has been bombing Houthis militia since the 26th March and allied army units, in addition to inspecting ships.

The Singaporean ship safely reached the port of Jebel Ali, with no serious damage and no injury to its crew.
