One Million Protest In Brazil Against President Dilma Rouseff
Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff is being pressured to step down amid allegations of corruption and a poor performing economy.
It is estimated over one million people took to the streets of Sao Paulo, Rio De Janiero and Braslia demanding the resignation or impeachment of Rousseff.
The corruption claims follow the exposure by Brazilan investigators of a huge money-laundering and bribery case involving South Americas biggest oil company Petrobras in which many of Rouseff’s politicians in her party are being accused of accepting payments worth millions.
Rouseff is being implicated highly as she was the Energy Minister and chairwoman of Petrobras during the time that the alleged scandal took place involving kickbacks totalling around $3.8 billion.
The Brazilan economy is weak as the country is heading into recession again this year, the currency is at its lowest in twelve years with the Brazilian real dropping 23% against the US dollar, and to add to this inflation is also high.
The Brazilian President in an effort to ease unrest within the nation sent two of her ministers to hold a televised press conference stating that the government understands and that changes would follow in the coming days to ensure any corruption is brought to a stop.
However this effort by Rouseff and her party has done little to ease tensions within the nation and the protests continue.
