Google Executive Dies In Nepal Quake

Dan’s sister Megan posted on his Instagram page the above photo saying “that during the avalanche on Everest early this morning our Dan suffered from a major head injury and didn’t make it.”

A Google executive, Dan Fredinburg , a self professed adventurer was amongst hundreds of people who have died during a massive earthquake which struck Nepal this Saturday. The web company Google has confirmed rumors about his death. The company’s director of privacy Lawrence You has posted a statement online in which he said that Fredinburg was in Nepal alongside three other Google employees where they were trying to climb Mount Everest, he also added that the other three Google employees are well and safe.

Fredinburg was a great asset to the company and was involved in many important projects. The technology blog Re/Code posted that Fredinburg was a climber with huge experience who co founded Google Adventure in his spare time. According to a global startup community called Startup Grind, the goal of this project is to take the Google Street View concept and translate it to exotic and extreme locations such as the Great Barrier Reef off Australia and the summit of Mount Everest. Fredinburg was also involved in starting up Save the Ice, which is an organization whose goal is to help raise awareness about global warming through events and adventurous campaigns all around the world. Fredinburg started working at Google in 2007. He worked as a product manager and was also the head of privacy at Google X, which is a branch of the company most known for its “moonshot” projects like the self driving car. Google officials stated that the company has sent a “person finder” tool to Nepal to make it easier for people to find their loved ones after the earthquake; the company has also stated that they are working on getting updated satellite images to help the recovery of the crisis. The company said that they will commit 1 million dollars to the quake response.

This unfortunate event has caused grief around the world. The famous actress Sophia Bush who has appeared in public with Fredinburg said that he was one of a kind in a post on Instagram. Many people who knew Fredinburg said that he was a smart and positive figure who has always strived to make the world a better place. “His heart was constantly evolving to push himself to make it so,” Sophia said.
