If Greece Falls No One Wants To Take Responsibility

European Union with Tsipras

The Greek government is blaming its international creditors as the Athens central government is drawing near to bankruptcy, as the agreement of cash for reform plan is not even close to being concluded. The central bankers and political leaders of Europe agree with the Greek politicians on only one thing: if Greece falls nobody wants to take the blame.

If Athens defaults and runs out of cash in the next few weeks, no one wants to take the responsibility for being unable to fix the problem. The leftist government of Greece has already found the main culprit for the scenario, Europe’s main paymaster, Germany. The way the Greek politicians see it, Germany is responsible for inflicting dreadful austerity policies on the Greek nation and caused a humanitarian crisis in the process. On the other side the governments of the Euro zone are getting ready to put the blame on the Greek’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras for threatening, obstructing negotiations, neglecting hard choices and failing to meet commitments while his country collapsed. “We are trying to do everything we can to prevent Greece from destroying itself, but the bottom line is, it’s up to them.” These are the messages that were sent from Brussels, Berlin and the IMF headquarters in Washington. Tsipras and his outspoken minister of finance Yanis Varoufakis at first tried to make a coalition against Berlin by touring Britain, Italy, France, Brussels and big media companies after their election, but they weren’t able to find any allies outside of the media.

Tsipras brought back to life demands for reparations over the Nazi Germany’s occupying of Greece during world war two, 1941-44, and Tsipras put the price at 279 billion Euros, which is more than the 240 billion euro Greece owes to the International Monetary Fund and the Euro zone. Berlin’s argument was that they have already compensated the war costs and that the agreement in 1990 of four winning powers in world war two has put an end to the war claims against Germany. The crisis is not near a solution while all sides wash their hands on the matter.
